Welcome to The Region’s Best Heart Care

Rated Top 100 in the Nation for Cardiac Care
Four Years in a Row!

Mercy Tyler Hospital is part of the Mercy Health system, which offers our patients access to nationally ranked cardiac care that’s second to none in our region.

Every year, Thomson Reuters, a leading healthcare industry review organization, examines the performance of nearly 1,000 U.S. hospitals by analyzing their outcomes for congestive heart failure, heart attacks, bypass surgery, angioplasties and other coronary interventions. Thomson Reuters® has named Mercy Hospital a Top 100 hospital in the nation for heart care, four years in a row.

No other hospital in our region has earned such a distinction and only a select few have accomplished such a feat in the whole nation!

Being a Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals© winner means Mercy patients are less likely to have complications and more likely to receive life-saving care with advanced technology.

Comprehensive Cardiac Care

The scope and quality of Mercy’s cardiac care is without equal in our region. Our nationally ranked care extends through post-surgical critical care, where specialized nursing units help patients and families recover.

Cardiac Rehabilitation at Mercy Tyler

As part of a heart-healthy lifestyle, our physicians encourage patients to exercise, maintain a healthy weight, eat a sensible diet and reduce stress. But after heart attack or cardiac surgery, many patients develop a fear of exertion that keeps them from including exercise in their recovery plan. This is where cardiac rehabilitation can help.

Mercy Tyler provides a monitored, supervised environment that helps patients feel more secure while increasing their physical activity. The goal of cardiac rehabilitation is to help patients regulate heart rate, enhance heart muscle contraction, lower blood pressure, decrease cholesterol and triglyceride levels and improve respiratory status.

To be eligible, patients must be referred by their physician and have had a cardiac event (heart attack, bypass surgery, stable angina) within the last year.

Levels Of Cardiac Rehabilitation

Level I

Inpatient care immediately following a cardiac episode.

Level II

12-week series of one-hour outpatient classes that meet three times a week for monitored exercise, various educational opportunities and group support. During these sessions patients are electronically monitored while they follow a personalized exercise prescription designed to enhance their recovery and reduce future risk. Most insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid cover this program. Beyond the monitored exercise, participants also receive personalized counseling on diet and the challenges of living with a cardiac condition.

Level III

This includes three-day-a-week supervised exercise for those completing Level II or for individuals at risk for heart disease. Patients are supervised by our cardiac rehabilitation team but are not electronically monitored.
